Home Sleep Study

Think you might have a sleep disorder? A home sleep study is the first step toward answers and better rest. This lets you complete a clinically accurate sleep study in the comfort of your own bed, with results interpreted by local Sleep Physicians.
What is a home sleep study?

A home sleep study also called a home-based sleep apnoea test is a diagnostic test that monitors your breathing, brain waves, oxygen levels, heart rate, limb movements and sleep position overnight while you sleep at home. It is used primarily to diagnose obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and other breathing-related sleep disorders.

You will attend an appointment at one of our convenient locations, where a technician will set you up with the equipment. You will then wear it overnight and return it the next day. A Sleep Scientist then analyses the recorded data, then a Sleep Physician will comment on the data and provide a detailed report with a diagnosis and recommended next steps.

Why choose a home sleep study?
Sleep in your own bed

No clinic admission, no unfamiliar environment. You sleep exactly as you normally would, which gives a more representative result.

Medical-grade accuracy

Hospital-grade monitoring equipment captures detailed cardiorespiratory data, reviewed by specialist sleep physicians.

Bulk billed

Home sleep studies are bulk billed under Medicare for eligible patients with a valid referral — no out-of-pocket cost.

Who should have a sleep study?

A home sleep study may be appropriate if you experience any of the following:

Untreated sleep apnoea is associated with increased risk of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and motor vehicle accidents. If you have been told you stop breathing in your sleep, or if your partner is concerned about your snoring, it is worth getting checked.

How it works

Get a referral

Ask your GP for a referral for a home sleep study. A referral is required to access the Medicare bulk billing benefit. Your GP can also request a specialist sleep physician consultation alongside the study if preferred.

Attend set up appointment and collect your device

Visit the clinic to be set up with the device, by an expert technician

Sleep at home as normal

Wear the device overnight in your own bed. The monitor records your breathing patterns, oxygen saturation, heart rate, airflow, and sleep position throughout the night. Most people find it comfortable and easy to sleep with.

Return the device

Drop the device back to the clinic the following morning. The overnight data is then uploaded and reviewed by a local Sleep Physician.

Receive your results and diagnosis

Your Sleep Physician reviews the full dataset and provides a detailed report.

Start treatment if needed

If a sleep disorder is diagnosed, your Physician will guide you through available treatment options from CPAP therapy and positional treatment to oral appliance referral and lifestyle support. The complete pathway, from diagnosis through to ongoing care, is managed by the Specialist team.
